2v2 Partner Format
Also called Scotch foursomes. Both partners drive, the team picks the better ball, then alternates shots from there. The fastest alternate-shot variant, and a great match-play format.

The Mechanics
Four mechanics. The pick is what makes it strategic.
Four players in two pairs. One ball per team after the tee shot is chosen.
Each player hits a drive. Then the team makes the most important decision of the hole.
Choose whichever drive is better positioned. The other ball is dead.
Whoever did NOT hit the chosen drive plays shot two. Then alternate shots until the ball is holed.
Step by Step
Four players, two teams. Greensomes pairs naturally with match play (1 point per hole won) or low-stakes stroke play.
Each player hits their own drive. Take your time - you'll have a choice to make.
Closer to the green, better angle, or simply the cleaner lie. caddie.fun's FormatActionPanel asks you to tap which drive the team picked.
The partner whose drive was NOT picked hits shot two. From there, alternate every shot until the ball is in.
Score the team's hole total against the other team. Match play or stroke play - both work cleanly with Greensomes.
Greensomes picks one drive and alternates from shot two. Chapman has both partners hit shot two (on the OTHER person's drive) before picking which ball to continue with. Greensomes is faster; Chapman gives the team more information before committing.
It originated in Scotland as a variant of foursomes that lets teams use their best driver. The name 'Greensomes' is the modern English label; 'Scotch foursomes' is the older one. Same game.
Yes. The typical formula is 60% of the lower partner's handicap plus 40% of the higher. The team handicap is then split as match-play strokes or applied to gross stroke totals.
House rule. Most groups default to the longer ball, but in a tight match the better angle often wins. The choice is part of the strategy.
Yes, in the sense that they don't have to hit shot two from the trees or the rough. Greensomes rewards the partner with the more reliable swing on shot one and the more reliable swing on the approach.
